Voltage Drop Calculations for 12 Volt Outdoor Lighting Systems
I bought a new 300 watt low voltage transformer that is attached to about 175 feet of wire. The lights that I have attached, although significantly less than the indicated 300, drop off drastically in brightness at about the 100 foot mark. What need I do?You need to split the lighting load into several home run wires back to the transformer or you can run a continous loop wire from the end of the run back to the transformer to boost your voltage. I have a Malibu ML300TRW power pack and the instructions cover only terminal blocks A & B -- what is C used for? ThanksThe "C" terminal on your MALIBU ML300TRW TRANFORMER is not used on this model. On larger transformers, the "C" teriminal is used for additional circuits. Simply put your wires under terminals "A" and "B". That will get you the 12 volt output you need to power up your OUTDOOR LIGHTING SYSTEM TRANSFORMER.

Electrical Short Circuit, Find An Electrical Short, Wire Splicing, Type Of Wire For Outdoor Lighting
Recently We had invested over 45k in new landscaping and one of the last and final stages was lighting. The company we were dealing with has went out of business. My problem is the light appears to have a short.I first checked the main Transformer everything looked good. Second I check the second connections and this looked ok. I have a PVC pipe under the drive way and when we drive up the light go on and off ? Do you know what the problem might be? I am assuming from your description that you have a low voltage lighting system. Most likely, you have a 12/2 DIRECT BURIAL CABLE, 10/2 CABLE or UF DIRECT BURIAL CABLE running through the PVC pipe under the driveway. I would start by replacing the section of LOW VOLTAGE WIRE that either has a short or a splice under the driveway. It's OK to cut the wire and splece the connections if you have to to correct the problem.
